To be eligible for a wheelchair, you must have a long-term mobility problem that will last for six months or more and be registered with a GP in Camden or Islington boroughs. You can be referred to the service by your GP or by another health professional – for example, a consultant, nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist or social worker.
Health Professionals can access the Wheelchair referral forms here
If you already use one of our wheelchairs but it no longer meets your needs, you can contact the team for a review. We offer free maintenance and repair for wheelchairs provided by the service.
Scootability - for service users who require a powerchair for OUTDOOR mobility only (ie for people who are still mobile within their home).
The Scootability scheme, run by Camden and Islington council, provides powered wheelchairs and scooters for free on a short term loan basis. The scooters and powerchairs are available to borrow from 1 to 4 days at a time, and will be delivered to and picked up from the service user's home. The scheme can also provide powerchair training and custom made ramps for eligible users who may require them.
Service users should contact Scootability direct for further information or an application form.
